Candidates on the Couch

In the lead-up to the 2025 Federal Election, Advance Cairns and Tourism Tropical North Queensland co-hosted Candidates on the Couch, a sold-out business lunch that brought together key decision-makers and industry leaders from across Far North Queensland.

Held on 16 April 2025 at the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino, the event featured the two major party candidates contesting the critical federal seat of Leichhardt—Jeremy Neal (Liberal National Party) and Matt Smith (Australian Labor Party).

The standing-room-only audience heard first-hand where the candidates stand on vital regional issues, including healthcare, housing, climate resilience, infrastructure, and road connectivity. Moderated by Advance Cairns CEO Jacinta Reddan and TTNQ Chair Mark Olsen, the session delved into the candidates’ leadership credentials, advocacy plans, and long-term vision for Tropical North Queensland.

This important advocacy event gave the regional business community an opportunity to engage directly with the individuals who could shape the future of our region in Canberra.
