#Export2030

Delivering fresh food fast

Doubling high-value food exports from Cairns Airport by 2030 is an ambitious yet achievable target for Far North Queensland. We can achieve this by collaborating more, consolidating our products to make airfreight more affordable, then exporting directly to international buyers to build a more resilient supply chain.

If you’re an FNQ producer, you have a real opportunity to attract a premium price and help build the FNQ food story.

What are you missing out on?

Background

Far North Queensland (FNQ) is an abundant producer of high-quality produce including a diverse horticultural industry, a world-recognised seafood and aquaculture industry, and an array of boutique and specialised products such as beef, dairy, coffee, and native foods. As a highly productive growing region, FNQ has the capacity to unlock future export opportunities for high-value food exports from the region via Cairns International Airport.

Recent research reinforced that except for live fish and lobster, the bulk of exported FNQ produce goes south to be consolidated and treated before being flown back over our heads to Asian markets. This means our farmers are missing out on any export price advantages – and missing out on the opportunity to build direct relationships with buyers.

It’s time to bring these profits and jobs back to FNQ.
