Path to Health Equity
Terrific to hear from Queensland’s Minister for Health, Mental Health, Ambulance Services, and Women, Shannon Fentiman MP, regarding critical women’s health issues, particularly those exacerbated in regional Queensland due to access and cultural barriers. The announcement of a multi-million-dollar investment in developing a strategy aimed at enhancing women’s and girls’ health is commendable, emphasising the importance of normalising discussions around issues such as endometriosis, UTI, menopause, and addressing domestic and family violence. The panel discussion, featuring prominent experts from various health and family services sectors, provided valuable insights.
Noteworthy ongoing health initiatives include the Queensland Women and Girls’ Health Strategy 2032, the establishment of a Women’s Health Hub in Cairns, the Queensland Community Scope of Practice Pilot, the TAFE Queensland Fee-Free course in Enrolled Nursing, the Women’s Health Hotline, and the Cairns Mental Health Unit.
