It speaks volumes about Cairns that Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) operates one of its two global headquarters from the heart of our city, with the other based in the UK.
During a recent catch-up, MAF International’s Manager of Strategic Partnerships and Resourcing, Caleb Bjorem, shared how the international Christian organisation uses aviation and technology to bring help, hope and healing to some of the world’s most isolated communities.
With a global fleet of 122 aircraft, MAF often flies where no one else does, delivering medical care, disaster relief and humanitarian support to vulnerable people, particularly across the Asia-Pacific, including Papua New Guinea.
Cairns’ connectivity and strategic location make it the ideal base for these life-changing operations, further reinforcing our reputation as Australia’s front door to the region.
MAF also operates a dedicated flight training centre and maintenance hangar at Mareeba Airport. Founded in 1945 by World War II pilots determined to use their flying skills to help rather than harm, the organisation’s remarkable history is celebrated at its Water Street headquarters through a display of historic photographs, aircraft models and archives.
Congratulations and thank you MAF International for all that you do around the world and for supporting Far Northern advocacy.
