For the past five years, Pete Faulkner FAICD of Conus Business Consultancy Services has been a key partner to Advance Cairns, delivering the economic analysis that underpins our advocacy and strategic direction.

His work spans economic modelling, industry engagement and providing the data behind major initiatives such as our regional roadmap – ensuring our advocacy is credible, evidence-based and outcomes-focused.

As Peter explains: “It’s about turning strategy into something measurable – understanding where we are now, and how we track progress over time.”

With a background in international finance and 20 years in investment banking, Pete brings a global perspective to regional challenges. Through Conus Business Consultancy Services, he now combines this with advisory and governance work across sectors.

Looking ahead, he sees strong momentum for Far North Queensland, particularly through major infrastructure investment.

“The scale of projects like the Cairns Hospital expansion will have economy-wide impacts.”

However, he also highlights the need to address key constraints to sustain that growth.

“If we’re going to grow, we need the infrastructure – starting with housing – to support it.”
